Apurina Awiri

Apurina Awiri rapé is considered a live rapé, and it is the only one of all the varieties of Brazilian Rapé that does not contain tobacco.

Awiry is a native plant that grows in the lowlands of the jungle, which remain flooded for much of the year. For this reason, Rapé Apurinã Awiry can only be prepared in the dry season, when the river level is low during the Amazonian summer.

Awiri has a great spiritual connection with the Amazon rivers, and is considered very rare and special.

Awiry is said to be a kind of wild tobacco. Many consider it a “live” Rapé, since it is not roasted during the process as tobacco is.

Awiry leaves are not fermented, they are simply dried naturally in the sun and as soon as the texture becomes brittle, the Awiry is ready to be ground together with some other medicinal plants.
