History of the Huni Kuin tribe

The arrival of colonizers in the colonial period marked the beginning of challenges for the Huni Kuin; The imposition of new social structures and the exploitation of natural resources altered the ancestral balance of the tribe. Despite these challenges, the Huni Kuin’s resilience was manifested in the preservation of their cultural and spiritual practices.

In more recent times, economic exploitation of the Amazon rainforest also posed significant threats to the Huni Kuin. Deforestation and the search for natural resources directly impacted their traditional territories, triggering a constant confrontation between the tribe and those who saw the jungle as a source of economic gain.

One of the most significant challenges for the Huni Kuin was the threat of the loss of their language and ancestral knowledge.
